Behind the Lense
My name is Katie, I'm a mother to two children and wife. I have ADHD and Autism but don't let that put you off from booking with me.
My love for photography started when I began learning Photography as a GCSE when I was 15 in Heanor Gate Science College and I clicked with my teacher Mrs Bartram so well and for the first time I felt like I'd found something that I was good at and that I could use as a tool to show how I saw things. Mrs Bartram helped me discover a way of showing my identity and to discover a passion I never knew I really had. I took a chance when I took the GCSE thinking it would be easy to pass but it took a lot of time and effort to focus and to pour my heart into something that it made me feel very passionate about portraying the real me in my images.
After taking it to an A-Level qualification after my GCSE was finished, I began to offer photography to family and friends to build a portfolio up. I took photos of different themes such as Alice in Wonderland and Graveyards. I then started taking photos of friends modelling and of family events like Christenings and parties.
My love grew for being behind the camera and I got more and more experienced as I took more bookings. When I was 22 I had my first child, and started doing more family and baby photography and then by 23 (2018) I had my second child and photographed my first wedding. I instantly felt more confident capturing all the different emotions, the tears, the nerves, the excitement and the happiness. I then booked a few more weddings.
After around a year or so I noticed my children needed their mum more than ever as they were having difficulties with speech and I decided to hang my camera up as I focused more on my family until my children grew and were more settled.
My children were then diagnosed ASD and I did everything I could to help them, but always missed being behind the camera. They are now settling well into school and I wanted to inject photography back into my life. So I dusted off my camera and have begun taking wedding bookings only at the moment.
I'll eventually like to expand again to doing events and possibly family portraits. But I'd like to focus on one thing at a time rather than overwhelming myself. My goal in life is to be a photographer full time, own a studio and have a great reputation and client base. But for now I am happy to provide my service and to just enjoy each opportunity I get to help others get their perfect captured moments and memories.
